Keitaro Ohno, Ph.D., was born in 1968 and grew up in Kagawa Prefecture on Shikoku Island, south-west of Tokyo. After graduating from Marugame High School, he moved to Tokyo, where he received a BSc and an MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1991 and 1993, respectively. From 1993 to 1999, he worked for the Space Development Group at Fujitsu Limited, where he was involved in the development of components for several satellites. In 1999, he transferred to a research division to focus on fundamental research. From 2001 to 2003, he was sent to the Computer Mechanics Laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley, as a visiting industrial fellow, where he continued his research.

He started his political career in 2004. He joined the Cabinet Secretariat of Japan and was appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary for political issues to Yoshinori Ohno, the Minister of State for Defense. He supported the revision of the National Defense Program Guideline, the realignment of U.S. bases in Japan, and the extension of the activities of Japan's Self-Defense Forces in Iraq. After his 400-day term, he served as a legislative assistant to Ohno, a member of the House of Representatives. From 2006 to 2007, in addition to his position in the Diet, he was with the Department of Information Physics and Computing at the University of Tokyo, where he earned a Ph.D. in 2007. In September 2012, he was elected chairman of the Third District Branch of the Kagawa Prefecture of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). He was elected to the Japanese House of Representatives in December 2012 in the 46th general election.

He was appointed Parliamentary Vice Minister of Defense (the 3rd Reshuffled Cabinet of the 3rd Abe Administration and the 4th Abe Administration), Deputy Secretary-General of the LDP, and State Minister of the Cabinet Office in charge of economic security and disaster management, etc (the 1st and 2nd Kishida Administration), in 2017, 2019, and 2021, respectively.

His current interests include foreign and international affairs, state security and defense issues, cyber and space policies, science and technology, monetary policy, SMEs, industrial structure, social business, and the promotion of IoT/AI/BD as innovation policy, etc.
